Lindsay Police Explorers Post 247
The Lindsay Police Explorer Program was established in 1994 and is an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America. Explorer Post 247 is a unique program because it is
an outreach to at-risk youth. This program allows juveniles who are interested in law enforcement to interact with the department and to become familiar with police
activities, policies, and procedures.
Members of the Explorer Post participate in the Explorer Academy, sponsored by the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. They participate in community projects
such as graffiti paint overs as well as other community projects. The Explorer Post has participated and assisted the Department of Public Safety in community
events such as the Orange Blossom Festival and Parade, Spring Fling, Lindsay Kennel Pet Fairs, Chili Cook Off, Public Safety Night, Santa Claus Night, canned
food drives, and other events. Explorer Post 247 also assists in crime prevention and suppression activities such as seat belt checkpoints and DUI checkpoints.
Explorer Post 247 currently has twelve members who meet twice per month for planning and training.
The Department of Public Safety will also be sponsoring a Fire Explorer Program beginning in the early portion of 1998.
