The City of Lindsay has historically been a "walking" community and strives to enhance its accessibility. During the past ten years the city has taken bold steps to extend and enhance its walkability between its business and residential districts, and its schools.
Pedestrian improvements include the construction of 7.43 miles of new sidewalks along with the installation of 153 new handicapped returns, 8 new strobed crosswalks, and 8 new sheltered, accessible bus stops. The city has aggressively pursued several grant sources to improve its accessibility, including the Community Development Block Grant, Safe Routes to School Grant, Transportation Enhancement Grant, and Proposition 1B Transit Grant programs.
Further, for over twenty years the City has offered an interest-free loan program to assist property owners in the repair or installation of their adjacent sidewalks, curbs and gutters. This program has been embraced and enjoyed by many Lindsay residents desiring to improve their frontages and promote accessibility. The city is pleased to provide a mechanism to help citizens to make these frontage improvements affordable.
