REPORT REQUEST

GUIDELINES FOR RELEASING REPORTS

The release of police reports is governed by the California Public Records Act (Government Code Section 6250-6260) and department policy.

Police reports are not released to arrested individuals and/or suspects. These individuals may obtain reports through their legal representatives and may contact the District Attorney's Office with jurisdiction over the matter.

Police Reports that involve a juvenile can only be released pursuant to section 827 Welfare Institution Code. You will need to petition the Tulare County Juvenile Court to obtain a copy.

HOW DO I GET A COPY OF A REPORT?

If you would like to request a copy of a police/crime report, you can email your request to the Records Division or appear in person during regular business hours. You can only receive a crime report if you are an authorized person such as the victim, the victim's representative or as provided in Section 6254 of the Government Code. Requests are processed in the order received. Requests may require that the requestor have a valid government issued identification and have a valid ‘right or need’ to access the police report as explained above.

You may come into the public lobby.

For further questions and clarification, please contact the Police Department Records Division at (559) 562-2511 option 2

TOWED VEHICLES

HOW DO I GET MY TOWED VEHICLE BACK?

The Lindsay Department of Public Safety staff will verify the driver license status of the person picking up the vehicle. If the registered owner does not possess a valid driver license, another person with a valid license must accompany the owner. Persons acting as agents for the owner must present a power of attorney document or a notarized letter authorizing the agent to take possession of the vehicle on the owner's behalf. The letter must identify the vehicle being picked up.

The vehicle must have current registration or have a temporary operating permit before it can be released.

The vehicle must have valid insurance.

If a vehicle was impounded for evidence, the owner may obtain a release once the Police Department has completed its investigation.

WHO PAYS FOR THE TOWING AND STORAGE FEES?

The registered owner of the impounded vehicle is responsible for all towing, storage, lien and release fees:

Vehicle Release Fee: Currently $221

Regular Tow Fee: Contact the tow company.

Storage Fees: Contact the tow company.
