The Parks & Recreation Department in Lindsay is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents through recreational programs, events, and essential community resources. It offers a wide range of services, including parks and facility maintenance, senior programs, youth activities, and special events that bring the community together. The department also provides educational opportunities and assistance resources to support residents of all ages. With a focus on engagement, health, and enrichment, it strives to create a vibrant and connected community. The department is comprised of various divisions including:
Purpose: To provide safe, enjoyable, and high-quality aquatic experiences through swim lessons, water safety programs, public swims, and Aquatics Special Events.
Water Safety & Education – Promoting lifelong water safety skills through certified instruction, community outreach, and seasonal safety campaigns.
Recreational Swimming Opportunities – Offering open swim times, family swim sessions, lap swimming, and themed community pool days.
Swim Instruction & Training – Providing lessons for all ages and skill levels, including parent-and-toddler classes, youth lessons, adult learn-to-swim, and advanced stroke development.
Aquatic Fitness & Wellness – Hosting seasonal water aerobics, low-impact fitness classes, and therapeutic aquatic programs supporting health and mobility.
Purpose: To maintain and enhance the City of Lindsay’s outdoor spaces so they remain safe, clean, and welcoming for all residents and visitors.
Park & Facility Maintenance – Daily upkeep of parks, playgrounds, sports fields, picnic areas, and open green spaces.
Landscaping & Horticulture – Care for turf, shrubs, flowerbeds, and plantings, including irrigation management and seasonal landscaping improvements.
Cleanliness & Beautification – Litter control, graffiti removal, seasonal clean-ups, trail maintenance, and enhancement projects that improve the community’s overall appearance.
Safety & Accessibility – Regular inspection and repair of playground equipment, pathways, lighting, and park amenities to ensure accessibility and visitor safety.
Recreation Purpose: To deliver inclusive programs, classes, and activities that promote fun, creativity, and community connection through recreational activities for residents of all ages.
Recreation Programs & Classes – Arts, crafts, enrichment workshops, dance, and cultural activities.
Community Engagement – Partnering with local organizations and schools to expand access to recreational opportunities.
Facility Reservations & Program Management – Scheduling, organizing, and coordinating recreational spaces. Offer indoor and outdoor facility reservations.
Inclusive Programming – Providing accessible options to ensure all residents can participate fully.
Special Event Purpose: To plan, organize, and deliver community events that celebrate Lindsay’s culture, bring residents together, and enhance community pride throughout the year.
Community Event Planning – Coordinating citywide events such as festivals, parades, holiday celebrations, and seasonal gatherings.
Collaboration & Partnerships – Working with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to expand event offerings and enhance community participation.
Promotion & Outreach – Creating event materials, promoting activities through multiple channels, and encouraging attendance and community involvement.
Specialized Programming – Developing themed events, cultural celebrations, youth-focused activities, and family-friendly entertainment.
Purpose: To provide safe, enjoyable, and high-quality athletic programs, sports leagues, and training opportunities that promote teamwork, skill development, and healthy competition.
Youth Sports Leagues – Organizing seasonal offerings and more.
Sports Clinics & Skill Development – Offering instructional clinics, coaching support, and athlete development programs.
Field & Court Management – Coordinating scheduling, upkeep communication, and use of Lindsay Sports Complex and Olive Bowl.
Tournaments & Competitive Events – Hosting local tournaments, championships, and community competitions.
Purpose: To support residents’ overall health; physical, mental, and social through diverse wellness and fitness opportunities.
Fitness Classes & Programs – Group fitness, low-impact exercise, strength training, yoga, and movement-based classes.
Gym Memberships & Wellness Center – Providing affordable membership options, access to cardio and strength equipment, open gym hours, and supervised workout environments.
Senior Health & Mobility Programs – Specialized wellness classes focused on balance, flexibility, and aging well.
Partnerships & Outreach – Collaborating with local health organizations, fitness instructors, and community partners to broaden wellness resources and education.
