Vacation Watch Program

The City of Lindsay Department of Public Safety offers a Vacation Watch Program to provide residents with added peace of mind while they are away from home. This voluntary service allows residents to notify Public Safety staff of extended absences so that patrol officers are aware the property is unoccupied.

When time and call volume permit, patrol staff may conduct periodic checks of registered properties during routine patrols.

How the Program Works

Residents who enroll in the Vacation Watch Program provide information about the dates they will be away, emergency contact details, and any specific concerns related to their property. This information is shared with patrol staff, allowing them to be aware of the absence and include the property in routine patrol checks.

Please note:

• Vacation Watch checks are conducted as staffing and call volume allow
• This program is intended as an added layer of awareness and support
• It does not replace the responsibility of residents to properly secure their homes

Eligibility

The Vacation Watch Program is available to:

• Residents who live within the City of Lindsay limits
• Properties located within the jurisdiction of the Lindsay Police and Fire Department
• The program is not available for properties outside city limits.

Important Reminders for Residents

To help maximize safety while you are away, residents are encouraged to:

• Lock all doors and windows
• Secure valuables and personal items
• Arrange for mail, package, and newspaper delivery to be paused or collected
• Use timers for lights if appropriate
• Inform a trusted neighbor or family member of your absence

How to Request a Vacation Watch

To request a Vacation Watch:

1. Print and complete the Vacation Watch Program form
2. Submit the completed form to the Records Unit of the Department of Public Safety
3. Forms will be reviewed and processed through the appropriate Sector Supervisor

Vacation Watch forms are also available in the lobby of the Department of Public Safety.

Residents are encouraged to submit forms in advance of their departure to allow for proper processing.
